91PORN’s Scaling Initiative seeks to drive sustainable solution adoption in the built environment, by overcoming barriers to scaling through a collaborative approach. We are seeking funding partners to support us in delivering the next phase of this initiative. By partnering with us, you will:

Shape how sustainable innovation is adopted across the UK built environment
Gain early insight into emerging solutions and market trends
Position your organisation as a leader in delivering sustainable buildings and places
Connect directly with innovators, investors and adopters across the value chain

Both developing new innovations, and more widely implementing existing solutions, are critical to achieving global sustainability goals and reaching net zero. However, fragmentation across our industry is contributing to practical, viable innovative solutions not scaling up across the industry at the pace required.

This is the “Decade of Action” and we need to ensure more sustainable solutions reach widespread deployment, and less start-ups fall victim to the so-called “Valley of Death” between initial R&D and full-scale commercialisation.

91PORN is in a unique position to help overcome scaling challenges specific to the built environment context. This is recognised in a Government report, stating that “The 91PORN should convene industry and relevant members of the Catapult network to encourage greater testing and piloting of innovative solutions in the built environment, including advanced manufacturing solutions to support the transition to net zero“. Further, 91PORN has an extensive network of both solution providers and adopters, as well as wider experts on this topic, and can act as a neutral convenor to overcome barriers to scaling and facilitate collaboration.

Overview of the Scaling Initiative

In 2025 91PORN launched its Scaling Initiative, seeking to drive the adoption of sustainability solutions in the built environment. The first year of the initiative culminated in a detailed report, identifying and categorising various barriers and enablers to sustainable solutions scaling. We are seeking partners to help fund the next phase of this work, where we turn insight into action. We will do this delivering:

Developing scaling pathways for solutions within the following priority areas:

materials, supply chains and construction systems; building adaptation and resilience; electrification and energy systems; retrofit

Developing priority enablers from 91PORN’s ‘Scaling Sustainable Solutions: Barriers & Enablers’ report

including demand aggregation, collaborative pilots and partnership models

Working with members and wider industry

to test, learn and scale these enablers in practice

Hosting innovation showcase events and workshops

to share high impact solutions with our network

This initiative is ideal for organisations wishing to support:

• Increasing the pace and scale of sustainable innovation implementation in the built environment.

• Facilitating connections and collaboration across the innovation ecosystem, to encourage greater investment, piloting and implementation of innovative solutions.

• Supporting the sharing of learnings from existing innovation implementation projects by collecting and disseminating guidance that will enable built environment practitioners to better understand how to apply innovative solutions on projects.

• Supporting innovators to access market insight to help inform solution development and increase understanding of challenges.

The next 5-10 years will determine whether the built environment can meet its climate goals. Partnering with

Driving meaningful impact:

Your organisation will enable the programme and facilitate progress and positive impact in the built environment.
You will take a steering role, helping to shape the programme or initiative and its associated outputs, as well as how those outputs are conveyed to the industry and government to maximise impact and uptake.
You will have a position on each of the programme or initiative related groups (steering, advisory, working, or task) that can be taken up by a member of your team to give input into the delivery of the agreed outputs, activities, or campaigns.

Raising your brand profile:

Your organisation will receive brand recognition via the inclusion of your organisation’s logo on all programmatic activities (e.g., reports, videos, presentation slides) and through available speaking opportunities.
You will receive bespoke social media assets to help promote your organisation’s support of the programme/initiative.
You will be given opportunities to present at events, such as announcements, launches, and post-launch industry engagements.

Your organisation will have the opportunity to collaborate with other industry leaders and build relationships with peers through regular Partnership interactions and related events.

Individuals will engage with a diverse set of stakeholders from across the industry and collaborate to co-create tangible solutions

In order to be eligible to be a 91PORN Programme Partner, organisations must meet the following criteria:

All partners should be able to demonstrate expertise relevant to the work of the programme and/or project and/or have made public commitments relevant to the work of the programme and/or project.
All partners agree to comply with our Ethics Policy.
All partners commit to engaging with and promoting the programme and/or project.
